Bobby Jones died Sunday. He was a local minister and performed marriages for thousands of people throughout the years.Jones' family legacy in Robertson County government ran deep, according to County Historian Yolanda Reid.Bobby Jones, his father Maxie Jones and grandfather JS Jones all served as commissioners, Reid said in a previous interview with The Times.Robertson County Mayor Howard Bradley served on the commission with Jones for 20 years. The commissioner was a loved by all and had a great passion for education, Bradley said, noting that Jones continued to be involved with the community after his time on the commission had ended.“He would go out of his way to help people and was always open and receptive.” Bradley said.THE TENNESSEANHogan, Mason, Rice win Robertson School Board racesJones performed marriages in the county clerk’s office conference room and also made house visits to perform small and large wedding ceremonies, County Clerk Susan Atchley said.He had performed at least 6,111 marriages in Robertson County, according to County Clerk documents dating back to 1950.Springfield used to be called “little Las Vegas” because there was a wedding chapel across the street from the county clerk’s office, a 30-minute blood testing clinic next door and many people came here to get married, Atchley said.Jones performed many marriages in the chapel, she said.He was also a volunteer with the Harriet Cohn Guidance Center, where he helped people suffering with mental illness. She was born February 21, 1936 in Louisville, KY to John Thomas and Mary Elmarie Tate Sanders. She was the granddaughter of the late John T. and Nannie Sanders, Sr. of Louisville, KY and William and Serena Tate of White House, TN. Evelyn enjoyed reading, gardening, Louisville basketball, attending Bluegrass music festivals with the companionship of her Boston terrier and Pomeranian dogs.She is survived by 3 step-children, Marsha Sandridge of Jackson, GA, Leslie (Clietia) Neal, Hull, GA and Gregory (Pam) Neal, Shepherdsville, KY; sister, Louise Cecil (Julian) Marsh, Louisville, KY; brothers, Raymond Sanders, Cottontown, TN Glenn (Sharon) Sanders, Hendersonville, TN and Gerald Sanders, Nashville, TN; 5 step-grandchildren, David N.
